Daily Harvest Review

If you’ve ever clicked on anything related to healthy eating, I’m sure Daily Harvest has popped up in your social media feeds. You know how the inter-webs magically assess your interests and toss applicable ads your way. Well, Daily Harvest was showing up in my feed daily. The cute little paper cups, clean black and white marketing, and colorful fruits and veggies… throw in a video of a chick in an NYC high rise blending up a quick smoothie before she rushes out the door to go about her day in the city… and I was sold. (After 3 years in Chicago and 4 in NYC, I had my fill of big city life, but it still makes me nostalgic.)

All of this combined with my kitchen still being a wreck as we wait on repairs due to insurance issues after the mold fiasco, I decided I needed an easy, convenient way to get some veggies and superfoods into my system. So I ordered a box… a random mix of smoothies, soups, “activated” breakfasts, overnight oats, and harvest bowls.

Carrot + Chia smoothie = awesome! Kinda like carrot cake in smoothie form. Super yummy.

Apple + greens smoothie = yum! (Though if you don’t like the taste of kale or green juices, you probably won’t go for this one. I loved it though.)

Coconut + carrot curry soup= meh. A little too spicy for me, and was lacking depth of flavor. Would probably have been better if I’d added broth instead of water.

The chai + coconut smoothie has been my favorite so far. It was absolutely delicious, filling, sweet, and I never would have guessed there was zucchini and cauliflower in it! I’ll definitely get more of this one.

I’ve also really enjoyed the harvest bowls I’ve tried… especially the cauliflower rice + pesto. They’re filling and flavorful. The cup says to put in a microwave safe bowl before microwaving, but I just stick it in there in the cup. So far, so good.

I’m doing a sunup-sundown liquid fast right now, so I’m plowing through these smoothies. Decided to make my own version with ingredients I had on hand… bananas, raspberries, blueberries, and spinach, then threw in some Balance Complete and Super C. Throwing these pre-made smoothies in the freezer until I can get around to making (and affording) another DH order.

Bottom line, at $7 a pop, they’re expensive to have on a regular basis. But if you’re doing a detox or need inspiration for how to do the healthy eating thing without slaving in the kitchen for hours every day, this is a great option.
